We begin with a 5-layer-sandwich design that centers on a solid core (3mm strong) allowing you to cut precisely – and virtually tracelessly. And instead of the inferior glued layers used in making the “Green” mats, X-Shift uses a glued-and-baked process that’s far more reliable. Even V-cuts won’t causedetachment of outer layers. So the precision-cutting and blade-life-extending quality of the mat is preserved, far longer than other mats. Plus, the pre-printed grid employs an optimal contrast color scheme for reduced eye-strain, even when cutting for extended periods.

If only to extend the existence of your blades, this Mat pays for itself. The vulcanized, 5-layer structure protects your surfaces and the sharpness of your blade with a high degree of hardness at the center, and progressively softer outer layers. Only the tip of your blade (which doesn't do the cutting) touches the harder material. The cutting portion of your blade stays well-protected within the soft, non-dulling outer layer material.
